Salvador is located on the northeast coast of Brazil on the Atlantic Ocean and is the third largest city in Brazil. Salvador has a tropical climate including rainforests and lush vegetation. 

Although Portuguese is the official language in Brazil, some people also speak English and/or Spanish.

By plane 
As one of Brazil's major cities, there are several international airlines serving Salvador International Airport. For domestic flights, there are several options from São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and other major cities. These flights are operated by Brazilian Airlines; Avianca, GOL, LATAM, Azul, etc, but in most cases, it will be necessary to fly to Salvador either via São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro.

By car or bus
Brazilian highways to Salvador are usually overcrowded, and distances are very large - for example, it takes more than 20 hours to drive from Rio de Janeiro to Salvador. There are interstate buses to Salvador from all major cities in Brazil that are cheaper.

By train
There is no train service available to Salvador.

Currency

The Brazilian currency is the Real (BRL). Major credit cards are widely accepted in Brazil.

VISA

Visitors arriving in Brazil must have a valid passport or an ID card for the MERCOSUL area.
